PureTech Scientific Glypure® PGA is a high purity glycolic acid monomer used in the synthesis of polyglycolic acid, or PGA. The low impurity levels achieved by PureTech Scientific’s proprietary continuous process enable efficient production of high molecular weight PGA which is useful for biodegradable polymers and plastics. The PGA polymer is extremely useful in medical devices such as dissolvable subcutaneous sutures; the sutures biodegrade slowly in the body into safe byproducts that are easy metabolized, reducing the need for invasive suture removal.
